I’ll be honest, I don’t know what this is.
On a whim, with very little forethought or plan, I logged into WordPress with the whisper of a name in my brain: 40 Beyond 40.
The name surfaced from a tornado of thoughts—those blasted age under age lists, turning 40 at the end of January 2025, and the last time I attempted a blog under the guise of new year resolutions.
I guess, giving myself time between creating the blog and writing this post has given me a little insight into my hasty decision. I hate those age under age lists, despite the fact I found myself on one in my 30s. Especially the emphasis on being under an age. What of the future accomplishments? The ones you make when you’re beyond those younger years, glorified in our hustle and grind culture corporations fawn over?
I don’t want to think all my greatest accomplishments happened already. I mean, in a way, they have—my kids were born in my 30s. But beyond that, there’s so much more ahead beyond 40. More heartbreak, more grief, more happiness, more accomplishments, more…everything.
Do I think I’ll be consistent with this blog? I don’t know. My thoughts strayed to the only previous blog I had centered around my resolutions…30 day goals for every month. I kept that up until May. So we’ll see where this takes us.
If you’re interested, stick around. There’s more life to live beyond 40.
